Tata Group will create 5 lakh jobs in the next five to six years, says N Chandrasekaran

The Tata group has invested in semiconductors, electric vehicles, batteries and related industries as well and therefore the conglomerate will create five lakh jobs in the next five to six years, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran said on October 15.

His remarks came at the Indian Foundation of Quality Management (IFQM) Symposium in Delhi, where he also said that there is a need for India to create a process for quality in manufacturing of products, quality of people, ecosystem and processes.

“One million people are coming into the workforce every month…We need to create 100 million jobs,” he said, adding that India will be the human resource capital of the world with a large number of youth.

N Chandrasekaran believes that the opportunity in front of India is huge and ‘Viksit Bharat’ is not about good economic growth but also about achieving social equality, health span for citizens and quality of life for all citizens.

“We need to prepare ourselves as the country of quality and services which are a world benchmark.”

He also said that in order to achieve economic growth, the economy needs to achieve job growth.

The Tata Sons chairman added that the IFQM body has been set up to promote and champion the cause of manufacturing and services.

He also asserted that this is India’s moment for several reasons. India has momentum, it’s raising per capita levels, products and services needed for consumption and that will keep growing. “We will be a significant player in the manufacturing requirements of the world.”

Also present at the event was Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw who highlighted that inclusive growth is a big pillar and that the number of IITs, AIIMS, and universities has doubled in the past 10 years.

He also believes that investment in social, digital and physical infrastructure will be important. “We have seen platforms like UPI emerge. Infrastructure in India is transforming day by day, quarter by quarter. But, there is less understanding around the development of social infrastructure.”

Vaishnaw also stressed the need to build the base for manufacturing because the world needs it and India needs it to generate employment. “India has become a big exporter of mobile phones, telecom equipment etc from being a negligible player,” he pointed out.
